A top high-street food and clothes store is moving to Guiseley and is set to create up to 30 jobs.

Yorkshire chain-store Marks and Spencer is taking over the former Kwik Save store on Park Road, in Guiseley retail park.

It has chosen the town as the location for one of its new single food stores which will also sell a selection of clothes.

The store is due to open this autumn.

A spokesman for Marks and Spencer's said: "It will be 9,500 square feet and will be up and running in autumn.

"It will be one of our new Food Stores and will have a majority of large quality food ranges and a small selection of clothing.

"We will be employing about 20 to 30 staff, the store used to deal with food and we will be transferring the staff to us."

"It is for a single food store. The food stores are all about bringing our product to the customer. We offer meals for the evening and fresh vegetables and poultry, ready meals and desserts.

"Each food store stocks 1,000 different items."

When the store moves to Guiseley it will be a big bonus for the town following the loss of Silver Cross and Arnold Lavers.

Councillor Stuart Andrew said: "If Marks and Spencer does move there I will be wanting to do everything possible to make sure there will be no effect from the traffic.

"It will be a benefit for the area in terms of jobs it will create."

The store will be holding a recruitment day at Guiseley Job Centre on Saturday at 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Ring (0191) 4607872 for more details.
