Companies on a Bradford business park were today applauded for backing a £250,000 project to cut pollution in the area.

The Environment Agency said the effort by businesses on the Euroway Industrial Estate had led to major environmental benefits, particularly for nearby Hallowfield Beck.

The project has included improving storage of pollutants, diverting drains and preventing the escape of waste materials and litter.

Since it was launched, there have been no pollution incidents affecting the beck caused by firms on the estate.

Project manager Sarah Mountain said: "I'm delighted with the commitment shown by the businesses we have approached.

"Improvements may have cost some money initially, but this has potentially prevented them having to pay out more money in fines if they caused a pollution incident.

"The campaign still has a way to go yet and I hope the rest of the companies on the trading estate will be as enthusiastic as those already involved."
