Guiseley AFC are warming up for their new season in UniBond Division One but it is with a mixture of results.

After the disappointment of a knock back by Halifax Town with two day's grace and arriving at Brodsworth only for the home club to have called the game off Guiseley were keen to see some action.

Losing 8-0 to a Hudders-field Town side which included nine first team squad members was hardly the baptism to the new season they were looking for. Andy Booth led the Town goal charge.

Assistant manager Clive Freeman - in charge with manager Neil Parsley on holiday - was gutted by a lack of fight from Guiseley.

A Guiseley reserve side visited Frickley Athletic's first team and gave a decent display in a 4-1 defeat.

Bradford City then sent their youth team to Nether-moor under the charge of former Guiseley manager Bobby Davison. Guiseley played well to win 3-1.

A reserve side then visited Glasshoughton and went down 4-1, in the main to defensive errors in a game where play was fairly even.

On Tuesday Guiseley defeated St Helen's Town from the North West Counties League 7-0 with three fine second-half strikes from substitute Stewart Airdrie and other goals from Richard Chattoe, Andy Shuttleworth, Lee Poole and Dave Henry.

Guiseley Reserves open their Lancashire League programme on Saturday at home to Barrow (3pm) and then have a mid-week game at Accrington Stanley. The first team start at North Ferriby on Saturday, August 16, and the following Tuesday entertain Bridlington Town.
