The massive battle for Division One survival is in full flow with Idle having the near impossible task of beating champions and league leaders Pudsey Congs at Cavendish Road tomorrow.

Idle is not the easiest of grounds to visit with the vociferous crowd sure to make their views known to the opposition. But picking up points against Congs is a big, big ask.

Idle are just above the drop zone and know that Yeadon have found some form of late and are hot on their heels.

Yeadon's home game with Farsley is the big relegation battle. Farsley have been sucked into the scrap and are looking over their shoulders nervously.

Farsley were beaten at home to Pudsey St Lawrence last week while Yeadon picked up six points against bottom club Gomersal, who now look doomed.

Harvey Anderson starred for Yeadon with an impressive knock of 91.

Yeadon skipper Grant Soames says his side are in a confident mood: "It is vital we stay up. Those clubs who do go down can find it difficult in Division Two.

"Tomorrow is a big match for us and we hope Pudsey remain invincible at Idle. Team spirit is good here and we have run into some form.

"Harvey has done a good job for us opening with James Todd and John Roper has bowled well since coming out of retirement. I have enjoyed doing the captain's job."

Idle spokesman Neil Johnson said: "It is a three-horse race for survival - us, Yeadon and Farsley. The next few weeks are crucial for us. We have to meet Yeadon and Gomersal. It would be such a shame if we were relegated after working so hard to gain promotion last season.

"Off the field things are going well. The club is becoming a focal point again with the cricket teams, a Sunday league football team and athletics club based here.

"We are looking at our finances for a refurbishment.

"Obviously we want to stay up this season and then consolidate."

There is an equally exciting scramble going on for runners-up spot in Division One.

Spen Victoria and Undercliffe currently hold that position - both on 62 points. Spen are at home to Baildon tomorrow while Undercliffe travel to Pudsey St Lawrence.

Hot on their heels are Woodlands and Baildon.

In Division Two, leaders Saltaire understandably believe it is their year and last week had a free day and a chance to rest on their laurels.

Unfortunately for them it was an opportunity for Bankfoot and Bradford & Bingley to do some catching up with wins against Keighley and Great Horton respectively.

Tomorrow Saltaire travel to mid-table Esholt, who defeated Manningham Mills last week. Bankfoot will expect to win at bottom club Hartshead Moor.
