Leavers at Riddlesden St Mary's Primary School ended on a high note.

The year six pupils -- who have now dispersed to no fewer than six secondary schools -- staged a production of Grease.

They performed on the final day of term for parents, governors, former pupils and friends of the school.

A full dress rehearsal the previous day had been attended by younger pupils, and children from Branshaw Special School.

The part of Danny Zucco was played by Sam Granger, and Lisa Earle starred as Sandy.

The backstage team included teachers Fiona Turnbull and Vicky Reynolds, choreographer Amanda Layton assisted by Caroline Layton, and costume makers Vera Wasley, Muriel Clarke and Joanne Stephenson. The car was created by Paul Fox.

Head teacher Eileen Jackson said: "The only sad note was the absence of Mrs Denise Birkby, much loved year six and music teacher, who died earlier this year.

Husband Peter was in the audience to represent the family.

A recently-produced CD 'St Mary's Musical World' -- which is dedicated to her -- is being sold locally and in school. Proceeds go to the Cancer Research charity."

Some of the stars of St Mary's Primary School's production of Grease are: Luke Whiteley, Lee York, Simon Brier, Sam Granger, Nicholas, Daniel, Graham, Phillip Gill, Daniel Milligan, Thomas Edgar, Rory Beeky and Myrosh Allan
