Children are being offered a ticket to ride on Bingley's new relief road.

Keighley Rotary Club's Bertie Bus will be taking young passengers along the £50 million three-mile route on September 6.

The trips are part of a special charity day being staged on the relief road, prior to its official opening in the autumn. Bertie will be giving rides between 10am-noon. A limited number of tickets are available at £10 per child.

Each youngster will receive a personalised certificate to show that he or she was among the first to ride on the new road. The offer is open to children aged 11 or under.

Keighley Rotarian Stephen Auker said: "This is a very rare opportunity for children to be involved in a piece of local history in the making, and will be something they can tell their children and children's children."

Tickets must be reserved by sending a £10 cheque per child -- made payable to Keighley Rotary Charity Account -- to Keighley Rotary Club, PO Box 351, Keighley, West Yorkshire BD20 5WY, by August 25. The child's full name should be written on the back of the cheque.
