Children enjoying the hot weather at East Riddlesden Hall were treated to an arts extravaganza.

About 75 youngsters from across the area took part in an arts activity afternoon, called Arts in the Garden, which included a nature trail, collages and prizes on Wednesday.

Volunteer Margaret Holmes, who helped run the activities, said: "The feedback that the staff received was that the children all had an absolutely wonderful time. I am delighted it went so well, especially because I have to do it again.

"It is a very good activity and has proved to be very popular when we have done it before."

The entertainment included a nature trail, for which the participants were given a clue sheet to find 15 items in the garden, such as pebbles, feathers and leaves.

Mrs Holmes added that the clues were designed to allow the children to use their own initiative.

Having completed the nature trail, the children were given coloured card and crayons to make a collage with their acquisitions. Children could take home their collages and were also given prizes.

The children's activities will continue at the National Trust site each Wednesday in August, from 2pm. Next week will be a Tudor tour of the house, with the nature trail returning for the final two weeks of the month.
