Bingley St Ives and Keighley have been relegated from Division One of the Bradford Union scratch league.

The Keighley club has been having a torrid season finishing bottom of the table and St Ives went down 6-2 to West Bradford last week to confirm that they will occupy the second relegation place.

Riddlesden and Bracken Ghyll look set for promotion from Division four with the Keighley club doing their promotion hopes no harm after beating Clayton 7-1 as Michael Scarborough led the way.

Branshaw and Silsden are currently mid-table in Division three with Branshaw pulling off a 5-3 victory over Bradford in the latest round of the competition.

St Ives collected just two points from their match with West Bradford with R Wheatley beating P Dempsey 5/4 while J Mountain, A Brown and M Parnaby slipped to defeats.

Branshaw's 5-3 victory over Bradford came with S Busfield beating J Coldwell 1-up, Joe Marshall havled with M Myers and R Chester beat C Goodison 1-up. James Marshall slipped to a 1-down defeat at the hands of A Beran.

Riddlesden's 7-1 win over Clayton saw Mick Scarborough beat J R Davies 6/4, A Barraclough beat W Hunter, B Dean beat K Paine 7/5 and C Bottomley halved with I Osborne.

Bingley St Ives -- Miss J Aldersley captured the Lady Captain's Day honours at St ives with an impressive gross 70. She plays of a handicap of four giving her a winning net score of 66. Second place in the Senior Division went to Mrs I Senior 86-16-70 with 3 Mrs J Roper 90-19-71. Division Two: 1 Mrs M Senior 87-24-63, 2 Mrs G O'Melia 91-21-70, 3 Mrs A Wilkinson 91-21-70. Division Three (Stableford): Mrs M Dawson 32 handicap, 39 points, 2 Mrs J Sutcliffe 29-36; 3 Mrs J Ridson 34-35.

Bracken Ghyll -- The prolonged fine weather has resulted in some excellent scoring in the latest competitions. Division One of the July Stableford saw Doug Thompson's 42 points pip fellow 17 handicapper George Burrell by one with Mark Robinson (14) in third with 38. In Division Two Brian Edwards returned 41 points off 27 with Terry Walker (28) on 40 beating Rob Fernyhough on countback.

The August Medal, played in glorious weather with the course in superb condition, resulted in even more impressive performances. Malcolm Walker's net 60 off his 16 handicap was some way ahead of the rest of the field, with 5 handicapper Dave Lampkin's 64 squeezing past Nick Page (11) after countback. But even this was topped in Division Two by Graham Cardus (23) who carded an 82 for net 59! Martin Edwards' net 65 off his 22 handicap edged Martin McKinley's 66 for second place.

The July Stableford round of the Alan Dyson Seniors Challenge Trophy was won by John Crellin's 40 points off 18 with George Burrell 37 (17) and Ken Hunter 35 (22) in second and third.

The 8-15 team also had a fine result in the Bradford District 8-15 League, beating Woodhall Hills 7-1 to move above them into third place in Division 2. Dave Gilbert, Joe Parry and Malcolm Walker all gained wins while Rob Boyle halved his match. To complete a great week the Rabbits beat Riddlesden 6-0 thanks to Russell Clark, Richard Piper and Terry Walker and are in fourth place in Division A.

Keighley -- The Loving Cup was played in glorious weather on Saturday 2nd August. Five man teams are made up depending on the area where members live. The best four stableford scores count. The winning team was the Bingley team, Carolyn Chapman, Roger Mitchell (43 points), Ralph Bladen, Mark Wild and Grahame Brown scored 147 points. The runners-up were Baildon, Bessie Booth, Winston Booth, Barbara Marklew (40 Points), Dennis Marklew and Tim Petty scoring 145 points.

The best lady and best man not in a winning team were Janet Cooper with 37 points and Jamie Chambers with 41 points.

The Ladies played the Hesp Trophy on Tuesday. This betterball stableford competition was won by Janet Cooper and Val Churchman with 42 points beating Cheryl Brown and Sue Lund on the back nine.
