Glusburn could produce the upset of the season when they go head-to-head with Embsay in the final of the Cowling Cup on Sunday.

The 2nd XI cup final, which is a repeat of the 1986 final, will be played at Ingrow CC, Hainworth Wood Road, Keighley and starts at 1-30pm.

The sides have met on eight previous occasions in the competition with the Shires Lane side holding the advantage with six wins to two. The only time they have met in a final was 1986 when Embsay, then leaders of the Third Division, lost by eight wickets, to the leaders of the Fourth Division.

Glusburn are enjoying a renaissance, after suffering relegation last season. Their first team are in the top six of the second division whilst the second team are second in the Division Four. They will be hoping for victory to be able to put some silverware in their superb new pavilion. They are appearing in their fifth final and have lost only once.

Whilst one man doesn't make a team, their batting this season has owed a lot to the prolific Matt Lloyd, who on his day can take any attack apart. So far this season he has scored 618 cup and league runs at an average of 103. This included a superb 106no against Oakworth in the third round.

He will be well backed up by Tanveer Akbar and evergreens Derek Mosley and George Garland. Skipper Richard (Rummy) Smith is in good form, particularly with the ball and can count on support in that department from Ian Shoesmith, Mark Johnstone, Ian Ridehalgh and Richard Butcher.

Embsay, the holders of the trophy, are appearing in their 20th final having won on 12 occasions. They are having a mixed season with form a little erratic, although that can be put down to holidays and injuries over the past few weeks.

In Alan Robinson they have a very experienced skipper and his side's batting strength will be lead by Paul Barwick, Brian Hodgson, Andy Bell, John Hillary and Jason Waddington. The bowling will be lead by the vastly experienced Ian Robson, providing he has shrugged of a knee problem, Marc Robson, Barwick, and Bell.
