Bradford Salem product Dan Scarbrough will make his Test debut when England's World Cup warm-up campaign begins against Wales in Cardiff next Saturday.

Bradford-born Scarbrough, of Leeds Tykes, has been knocking on England's first team door for a while, having impressed on England A duties.

Wasps centre Stuart Abbott, 25, is also rewarded with a debut, while prop Jason Leonard, holder of an England record 103 caps, will captain a side containing no survivors from the starting XV that defeated Australia 25-14 in Melbourne two months ago.

England coach Clive Woodward said: "It gives the new caps, Stuart Abbott and Dan Scarbrough, an excellent opportunity to push their claims for a place in the final 30-man World Cup squad, which I will announce on September 8."

But 25-year-old full back Scarbrough, who is a prolific try-scorer at club level, still faces an uphill battle to make the final World Cup party, given England's riches at wing and full back.

Josh Lewsey, Jason Robinson and Ben Cohen are certainties, leaving Scarbrough, Dan Luger, James Simpson-Daniel and Iain Balshaw scrapping for probably just two places.
