A Bradford building company has put the seal on an incredible 12 months by scooping an award for the best retail interior of the year.

PEC Building Services was honoured for its part in fitting a new concept showroom for Magnet Limited in Chester when it won the top prize at the UK Retail Interior Awards in London.

Now the new concept, which includes interactive displays, plasma screen and projection areas, is to be rolled out across Magnet's stores.

And that is good news for PEC which has already started work on three new stores in the London area, to be completed by Christmas. The whole refurbishment programme is expected to create the need for 15 new staff at PEC.

Managing director Balbir Panesar said the firm was delighted to be involved in the project, which was designed by the Harris Partnership and beat off competition from designers including Terence Conran. The showroom was fitted out by 35 PEC staff over eight weeks.

"With it being a totally new design, there was a lot for us to learn and it was very challenging," he said.

PEC has scooped a host of awards this year including business of the year at the Yorkshire Asian Business Convention and a runner-up award from the Asian Business Network last week.

Andy Cartlidge, store portfolio development manager for Magnet, paid tribute to the work of PEC.

"The quality of the fit-out at the new Magnet store in Chester is testament to the high standard of works carried out by PEC Building Services, whom Magnet Ltd has successfully used for store development projects for several years," he said.
