Dudley Hill Eagles 28 Keighley Albion 37 - A confident Keighley Albion were lucky to scrape a victory in extra time against Dudley Hill Eagles in the first round of the Pennine President's Cup.

The Eagles took an early lead from a penalty goal after five minutes. Albion replied when James Young took a quick tap penalty and side stepped his way to the line and Young converted.

They added further points when Richard Broughton finished off a good passing move to make the score 10-2. Eagles gained possession from the re-start and scored an unconverted try. However, Albion gained the upper hand when James Feather forced his way over for a converted try just before half time and Chris Atkins scored just after the break.

Albion's game deteriorated and the Eagles came back into the game with three well taken tries two of which were converted to bring the scores level at 22-22.

Eagles side could scent victory and threw everything at the Albion defence and in the last action of normal time were awarded a penalty 25m out in front of the posts, fortunately for Albion the ball drifted wide.

In the first half of extra time Eagles kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a penalty goal and an unconverted try to give them the lead for the first time in the game.

Albion's captain James Feather brought the game level when he chipped through the Eagles defence and re-gathered, Young converted.

In the second period of extra time Albion dominated play with Feather adding a field goal, Young kicked a penalty goal and Broughton went in for his second try of the game to seal victory.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Albion are at home and expecting a large crowd for the Yorkshire Cup quarter final game against Queens (Leeds) k.o 2pm at Highfield.

Keighley Town 28

St Josephs 18

Town got off to a good start with an early penalty from Jason Barnes in the first round of the Pennine Cup.

Town were on the attack 10yards inside St Joseph's half when centre Rob Spencer made a break down the left before passing to Quinton Sneyd who scored out wide but it wasn't long Saints levelled the score with a well-worked try under the posts.

They crept further ahead with a penalty, adding a try after town knocked on while trying to take a high ball. A kind bounce saw St Joseph's go on to score out wide to take a 12-6 lead at the break.

Town started the second half with confidence with Barnes converting a penalty. Man of the matchTom Palmer was held up over the line, but Keighley scored minutes later after scrum half Richard Shaw dived over from close range. The conversion gave Town a 14-12 lead.

They went further ahead when Darren McNulty chipped over St Joseph's defence and a good chase saw Darren Lynam gather the ball and pass to Rob Spencer who raced over. Barnes added the goal to make it 20-12.

Town's defence was the key to the second half closing St Joseph's down before they could do anything with the ball. Barnes took advantage of their frustration to tag on another penalty.

Their next try was set up by powerhouse Carlton Farrell. Good running by Chris Ellison took town to within five yards of the try line, the ball was passed out to Farrell who sliped a one-handed to scrum half Richard Shaw who scored under the posts. Barnes added the two points to complete Town's scoring.

Saints cored a consolation try in the final minutes but Town were worthy winnersi.

n Silsden Park Rangers went down to a 58-18 defeat at home to Birkenshaw.

Cowling were awarded last Saturdays game when Greetland A were unable to complete the fixture. Cowling are at home on tomorrow (Saturday) to top of the table Clayton A.
