Silsden have kept up their campaign to retain the Challenge Cup trophy - after a 3-0 derby victory over Keighley Shamrocks.

The eagerly anticipated tie at Cougar Park saw the Cobbydale club use their forward power and rock-solid defence to secure a victory which will take them into the third round draw.

Jimmy Spencer opened the scoring after 13 minutes when he headed home a Jimmy Hedges cross, but 10 minutes later Silsden were reduced to 10 men when Gavin Finn got his marching orders after picking up two yellow cards early in the game.

The title holders took their 1-0 lead into the break and took a greater control in the second half, limiting Shamrocks to few chances.

Silsden increased their lead when Ben Furness scored his first goal in a Silsden shirt. The former Keighley Phoenix player took a year out of the game last season, but looked to be back to his old form.

After 25 minutes of the second period Spencer scored their third when he side-footed home Martin Bland's cross from the right wing.

The Silsden back three of Rosser, Matthew Bland and Adam Reed were solid at the back.

"Jimmy Hedges had a superb game in midfield, dropping back after Finn was sent off," said coach Andy Geary.

Steeton saw their campaign come to a halt with a narrow 2-1 defeat at Sorthes Hall.

Steve Parker scored the Summerhill Lane side's goal to give them a 1-0 half time lead, but two second half strikes sent the home side through.

Keighley Lifts will join Silsden in the third round draw after they pulled off a 1-0 away victory over Heckmondwike Town.

Bronte Wanderers saw their hopes of making progress fade away as they were beaten 4-1 by Thorne Colliery

Cross Hills saw their hopes of continuing in the competition dashed by West Yorkshire Premier League leaders Carlton Athletic , who were handed a 4-2 victory after Hills threw away numerous chances.

The South Craven side ripped into the visitors from the start and for the first 20minutes gave them a torrid time. They created and missed several chances before Carlton took advantage of this and went ahead when a shot came back off the bar and rebounded in off the goalkeeper. A soon followed when a loose pass allowed Carlton to finished clinically.

Their third came when the ball was dropped at the feet of the opposing striker, who gleefully slammed the ball home.

Cross Hills came out strongly in the second-half and pulled two goals back. The first was an own goal after sustained pressure and the second came from the boot of Rob Wilkinson.

Carlton scored a fourth leaving the home regretting their missed chances.

In the Sunday Trophy Crossflatts failed to capitalise on their possession and lost 3-1 to Silsden. Victoria Hotel lost 7-3 to Batley Irish, Sandy Lane beat FC Comrades 3-2.

Silsden travel to face Halifax Irish and Keighley Lifts face a tough battle at Knaresborough Town, both games are to be played on December 6.

In the Sunday Trophy Silsden are at home to Tuckers and Sandy Lane must travel to take on Horsforth Rangers on sunday, December 7.
