The shout went up last weekend as town criers from all parts of England made a noise in Haworth.

The loud lads took part in the village's second Holly Holler competition organised as part of pre-Christmas festivities.

As well as taking part in the official contest, the criers spent both days helping guide visitors around Haworth.

And they proved a popular draw, with people crowding around as they made various festive cries.

The competition was organised again by Keighley town crier Michael Walton to tie in with Haworth Traders Association's Scroggling the Holly event.

Traders' chairman Jacqui Purlan said the Fleece and Old Hall hotels provided free accommodation and catering for the criers. She said this enabled them to stay for the whole weekend and play a part throughout both days.

The overall winner was Leighton Buzzard man Martin Hallett, with Fred Ferris (Swindon) winning the best-dressed crier class and Don Evans (West Lancashire) the best ambassador class. Following last year's inaugural competition, this year's event was designated an official competition by the national town crier organisers.
