Bryan Robson believes Danny Cadamarteri's Premiership quality can keep City in the First Division.

Robson's dream debut in charge was capped by a sensational cameo from substitute Cadamarteri.

The former England under-21 striker banished a year of injury torment with the first goal in City's second-half fightback against Millwall.

Amazingly it was Cadamarteri's first at Valley Parade since joining his hometown club 22 months ago.

Robson said: "Danny Cadamarteri is a Premiership player. I've seen him destroy Premiership defences, he tore us apart at Middlesbrough a couple of times when he was with Everton.

"I'm hoping I can get the best out of him here. If we can get him on a goalscoring run where his confidence is high, he's going to give a lot of First Division teams problems.

"I think there's a lot more to come from Danny and we can improve him. If he's enjoying his football and the results pick up, then he's going to be a real threat."

Cadamarteri scored only once last season in the League Cup at Wrexham. He last hit the net in the First Division at Walsall in April 2002.

City trailed 2-0 at half-time and were booed off by some fans. But Cadamarteri netted seven minutes after the re-start and further goals from Andy Gray and Michael Branch claimed their first win since mid-September.

New boss Robson switched systems at half-time and threw three men up front. He said: "We said if we could get a goal early on in the second half they'd be a bit shaky. Fortunately we did that and Millwall went on the back foot.

"Full credit to the players for their attitude, character and work rate. I couldn't have asked for any better in the second half.

"My main aim is to finish the season fourth off bottom or better, then we'll have achieved what we set out to do. I'm not kidding myself, it's going to be tough.

"But the one thing which I've been pleased about since we started training last Monday is that the attitude of the boys has been spot on.

"We seem to have got a response from them straight away. But it's also nice to have more or less a fully-fit squad available because good players like Danny and Peter Atherton haven't played all season."
