Pennington's has been sounded out as a possible venue for a European title fight.

Promoter John Ingle believes the Bradford nightclub would be ideal to stage the super-bantamweight clash between Esham Pickering and Italian Vincenzo Gigliotti.

Ingle has put Pennington's on the boxing map with three shows there in the past year. The next one takes place on Sunday with another bumper crowd anticipated.

Promoter Jess Harding, who also looks after Audley Harrison, accompanied Ingle for a fact-finding trip to Bradford yesterday to check out the venue's suitability.

Ingle said: "It has worked really well so far bringing boxing to Pennington's. The Bradford people have responded and they have been excellent shows.

"I'm serious about staging the European title fight here if it is possible to do so."

Junior Witter, a close pal of Commonwealth champion Pickering, said: "It would be great for Bradford if they could do it here."

Contracts for the fight are expected to be signed shortly.

Bradford trio Nadeem Siddique, Donovan Smillie and Nathan Joseph will be in action on the Sunday afternoon bill.

Unbeaten Siddique, who faces Chris Duggan, hopes a seventh straight win could earn him a crack at the vacant British Masters lightweight crown.

Siddique said: "I'm excited about this show because there are going to be a lot of people coming. I think we're helping to put Bradford on the map.

"People know about City and the Bulls but they are also becoming aware that there is a strong boxing scene as well."

There are two titles on the line. Dewsbury lightweight Mally McIver fights Daniel Thorpe for the vacant Central Area belt while Martin Hardcastle and Jeff Thomas slug it out for the British Masters super-featherweight mantle.
