A major Bradford business claims it has the cleanest street in the district thanks to a Council street cleaner.

Car dealership JCT600 is on a mission to clean up the city and has sponsored a street cleaner to keep its premises in Sticker Lane, Bradford, litter-free.

Company chairman Jack Tordoff said: "Our whole image is clean-cut. It is part of the JCT culture to keep things looking neat and tidy.

"So keeping the area spotless is just an extension of that."

The dealership, which has 11 premises in Bradford, arranged to sponsor a Council street cleaner seven years ago to tackle the problem of litter around the company's premises.

JCT600 pays half the Council worker's salary in return for a daily sweep of the area from Dudley Hill to Laisterdyke traffic lights.

And Mr Tordoff said it has made a big difference.

He added: "Tony Moss, our street cleaner, does a very good job.

"You really do not see any litter after he has been which makes a good impression of the area and our business."

The company's dedication to cleaning up the district is reinforcing the message of the Telegraph & Argus's Bin It for Bradford campaign.

The T&A launched the campaign to tackle litter and encourage communities to take pride in the district.

But with a supermarket and fast-food outlets on the doorstep, Mr Tordoff said the area around the company's premises was a haven for litter-bugs.

He said: "I even see people throwing things out of car windows. It is so irresponsible and it is complete laziness."

Mr Tordoff said sponsoring a street cleaner showed the company cared about the community.

He said: "We have a big presence here on Sticker Lane so it makes sense that we should set an example by keeping the area clean.

"It is all about taking pride in the local community and when people see someone doing that it rubs off onto other people."

Ray Garland, district manager for street cleansing at Bradford Council, praised JCT600's sponsorship.

He said: "JCT is a major employer and it is good to see them taking pride in the area.

"It really shows their commitment to keeping the district clean and it has worked out very well."

Bradford Chamber of Commerce president Roland Clark said: "JCT600 is the model employer, working hard for and dedicated to the district and working in a way others can aspire to.

"As a supporter of the T&A's campaign, the Chamber welcomes all such initiatives that improve the environment.

"We hope that other companies can follow this lead, even if in a more modest way, to make Bradford a better place in which to do business.
