Farsley Celtic progressed in the West Riding County Cup at the expense of the side their former manager is now in charge of as Martin Haresign's first return to Throstle Nest turned sour.

A brace from Roy Stammer helped Lee Sinnott's side through to the last eight but it was a goal from former Bradford City defender Graham Mitchell that eased the tension. Stammer opened the scoring in the 18th minute but Railway's Steve Davy levelled less than a minute before half time.

It was not until 16 minutes from time, when Mitchell - who made his debut in Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Hyde United - headed home from a Stammer corner, that Farsley started to believe.

The contest was not effectively settled until Stammer added the third in the final minute.

"I'm very pleased that we have gone through, we needed a win and you could tell from the players reaction in the dressing room after the game that they were relieved," said Sinnott.

"It was a good professional performance from our boys and an important one after losing the last two home games. They responded well in a tricky tie given the recent history.

"The Harrogate people had a lot to prove with the last Farsley Celtic manager in charge and a few former players in their ranks. But our players did a good job on the night.

"Roy got one goal with his left foot and one with his right and he has now got five in his last five games. He can do that against any defence, he has very quick feet and when he shoots there is hardly any back-lift but they fly in.

"I'm delighted that Graham has got himself a goal. He was only five yards out but he dispatched it well.

"He is not just a solid defender he is a threat in the opponents box at set pieces."
