The Bulls have completed their swoop for Wigan's Great Britain utility player Paul Johnson.

The 25-year-old centre or second-rower has joined the club on a three-year contract.

Johnson, who had been with Wigan since his schoolboy days, made 131 appearances for the Warriors, scoring 56 tries.

He has also made five appearances for Great Britain and was named Back of the Series for his displays against Australia in 2001.

Bulls coach Brian Noble is delighted to have added Johnson to his squad.

"Paul will be a very big asset to the Bulls," said Noble.

"He can play in a number of positions, is a strong runner and a solid defender. He is someone I have worked with before, within the Great Britain squad, and I am delighted he has chosen to further his career at the Bulls."

Johnson was ruled out of this year's Test series after suffering severe lacerations to his index finger in what was described as a "freak accident" during the aftermath of Wigan's Grand Final loss to the Bulls.

He said: "I am delighted to be joining Bradford. It is a big opportunity for me to push forward with my career and I am looking forward immensely to joining what is a very strong and talented squad."

But Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay is fuming about the salary cap restrictions that forced the club to release a valuable home- grown talent into the Bulls' clutches.

Lindsay has accused struggling Super League clubs of damaging the sport after Wigan were forced to release Johnson and England A full back Sean Briscoe, who were both contracted to the club for next season.

"Under normal circumstances I wouldn't dream of letting them go," said Lindsay.

"Both of them have come through our

development scheme and that is the tragedy of the salary cap, and why it is punitive - it deters clubs like us from developing young players."

l This is the final weekend to get the maximum discount on Bulls' season-ticket sales. The Odsal ticket office will be open from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday.
