Bradford's £16m. transport interchange has been commended in the Financial Times Industrial Architecture Awards 1978. The awards committee describes the interchange as "a large and somewhat unexpected complex executed with great verve which at points has led to slightly contrived solutions." "It has formed a new and busy place in Bradford where the various levels of ramps and galleries, under a soaring glazed roof, provide continuously changing patterns of light and moving people".

The thought of working at dizzy heights on church steeples and factory chimneys is a nightmarish one for most people, but Mr. Samuel Edgley of Harro-gate Road, Eccleshill, has spent the last 50 years working far above the streets and is still capable of climbing a sheer ladder to a "stack" top to superintend a job. At 66 Mr. Edgley is the oldest working steeplejack in Bradford.
