Boroughbridge 3, Bramhope 2

Bramhope travelled up to Boroughbridge full of confidence after recent results have seen them reach two semi-finals and go unbeaten in the league for the last two games.

However for the first 25 minutes Bramhope seemed to still be in the dressing room and at times looked like a set of players who had never played together before.

To their credit Boroughbridge played some attractive football mainly through their impressive right and centre midfielders who were both involved in the first goal. A mistake from Bramhope's goalkeeper Craig Russell let Boroughbridge have a simple tap in and within five minutes had made it 2-0 after some dreadful marking from a set piece left a man free on the back post to volley home.

For the second week running Bramhope found themselves 2-0 down in the first 25 minutes.

This seemed to spark them into life creating chance after chance of their own with Phil Wilman, James Nichols and Ian Broadhead all going close before half-time. The second-half was, for long spells, one-way traffic with Bramhope creating more chances and playing with the confidence of recent weeks. It looked like Ian Broadhead would score on 50 minutes when his header from four yards went narrowly wide.

However, within five minutes of that chance Ian Broadhead scored a wonderful volley from the tightest of angles. On 65 minutes Bramhope got the equaliser through central defender Kevin Page.

The match then became a very stop start affair with the referee having a growing influence on the game giving incorrect decisions against both sides.

This was highlighted when out of nowhere a free-kick was given against Bramhope 20 yards from goal with not even the opposing team able to explain why it was given.

From this free-kick Boroughbridge scored the winner with an excellently struck kick which deflected off the bar and into the back of the net.

From then on Bramhope dominated the game but the equaliser would not come.

A courageous comeback but sadly this game was lost in the first 25 minutes.

l Bramhope entertain Pateley Bridge on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
