Yorkshire County Cricket Club has announced the appointment of David Byas as Director of Cricket, as from January 1, 2004.

David comes to Yorkshire on a two year contract with the total support of the Board to hopefully return the club to its former standing within English cricket.

David's strong character and respect within the County's players and members was a key factor in selecting him for this very important appointment.

Yorkshire feel sure that David's strong management skills will establish a cricket structure within YCCC whereby they can develop the players for future success.

Guiseley's Geoff Cope, who holds the position at present, moves to Operations Director with responsibility for the Ground operations/maintenance and liaising with YCB, Yorkshire Schools and all cricket administration. Cope is a former Captain, Chairman and President of Yeadon Cricket Club.

The former Yorkshire and England spin bowler also played locally for Otley CC and Wharfedale Ramblers after starting his playing career in the Dales Council League, of which he is President.

Yorkshire have also announced the signing of Ian Harvey from South Australia as their second overseas player for 2004. Harvey joins Yorkshire on a one year contract with the option to extend to year two depending upon the FCF decision on the number of overseas players for 2005.

Yorkshire firmly believe that Ian will fill the all round position at Yorkshire, which has been badly missed over the last two seasons with injuries to Craig White and Gavin Hamilton.
