A Bradford man who was beaten to death in the grounds of a cricket club is to have a special garden named after him.

Tarquin Turner was attacked on a footpath yards away from the entrance of Undercliffe Cricket Club on October 23.

He was going to the club to enjoy a pint and game of dominoes.

The 31-year-old's funeral service will be held at Bradford Cathedral on Tuesday, December 16, at 11.30am, because the family said their own church, St Augustine's in Eccleshill, would be too small to cope with the hundreds who are expected to attend.

"His life involved three areas - work, home and the cricket club - and what we saw was just the tip of the iceberg," said father Trevor Turner.

Tarquin, of Eccleshill, was a care assistant at St Catherine's Hospital in Manningham where he looked after elderly patients.

"We've had tonnes of letters from people we don't know who Tarquin looked after and it makes us feel very proud, but it's also very upsetting," said Mr Turner.

Tarquin lived with parents Trevor and Jacqueline and was a member of the cricket club.

"He lived with us, went on holiday with us, and we were a close trio," said Mr Turner. "It's awful without him and every day our hearts ache for him, but we have to get through.

"He was our best friend."

The funeral will be followed by a cremation at Nab Wood crematorium, after which Tarquin's life will be celebrated at Undercliffe cricket club.

His ashes will be scattered at the Tarquin Garden at a new hospital unit in Harrogate Road, which is part of St Catherine's hospital, where he was due to have started work in the new year.

The family will be selecting some of Tarquin's favourite music, which ranged from heavy metal to rock band Bon Jovi.
