This years results for Ilkley Karate Club have been amazing.

Club Instructor Mark Outterside said: "I could not have wished for a better year. I thought last year's results were good but this year's have exceeded all expectations.

"From four of the major tournaments we have amassed 15 first place trophies, eight second and 15 third.

"In addition we have also won seven first, nine second and 13 third place trophies at the Wharfedale Kumite Championships earlier this year.

"We have also been the top club within the Shukokai Karate Union in the Yorkshire area only being beaten by the larger clubs that have four or five clubs under the one name."

In a table of the results from all clubs Ilkley are placed third and fourth which is amazing for a small club. The clubs above them are the larger clubs based in the Cheshire area.

The club currently has four SKU National Kata Champions in Kerry Laycock - 6-4 kyu under 16 years; Calum Kerr - Open under 10 years and 8-7 kyu under 10 years; Andrew Drury - Male 6-4 kyu over 40.

Its six SKU National Kumite Champions are Andrew Johnston (6-4 kyu under 4ft 6); India Nolson-Fearnley (6-4 kyu under 5ft 6); Faye Cooke - (Brown belt under 5ft 6); Maria Corless - (Brown belt under 5ft); Ken Corless - (Brown belt under 5ft) and Tashina Earle - 6-4 kyu under 5ft. They have one Open Champion in Amey Spink (6-4 kyu under 4ft 6).

They also have an England v Spain Champion in Tyrone Abraham (Boys brown belt) and two Junior SKU champion teams in: U-10s (Calum Kerr, William Coates, Nikki Corless and Junaid White) and U-12s (Callum Bruce, Jasper Morvaridi and Jack Hanson)

They also have five children who are currently on the SKU cadet England squad.

The club has also been featured in one of the major Martial Arts magazines "Traditional Karate" (which has world wide circulation) this year and has new sponsors Ilkley Mot and Service Station.
