Children at a Keighley school joined thousands from across the country to try and break a world record.

Ingrow Primary School's 331 pupils, aged from three to 11, packed into the hall at exactly 2.45pm on Monday to help form the world's largest simultaneous choir.

And the Rev Clive Kirke, vicar at St John's Church, Ingrow, was in attendance to verify the record-breaking attempt. The event was organised by the Sargeant Cancer Care for Children, to kick off Children's Cancer Month. The Big Sing has broken the record in the previous two years.

Last year 83,637 pupils in England and the Republic of Ireland helped to raise more than £42,000 for the charity. This year it was hoped to smash the record and raise more than £100,000.

Ingrow school, which had been sent the CD of the song -- "For a Better Tomorrow" performed by Declan Galbraith -- had been practising for the event for two weeks. Cath Abbott, music co-ordinator at the school, said: "I think it is a good idea. It raises money for children's cancer charities and it is good to get everyone together as a whole school.

"It is really good fun and we would do it again. And it is good to know that, hopefully, so many people have been involved around the country."
