Nurses from the new breast unit at Airedale Hospital were tickled pink by a supermarket's fundraising effort.

A cheque for £831.54 was handed over by staff at Sainsbury's supermarket, in Keighley, after they collected the money on Wear Pink Day. Staff at the store dressed in pink, including T-shirts, ties and even a feather boa.

Held as part of the national event, the money was collected by selling pink ribbons, customer donations and sponsorship for wearing pink.

Friends of staff also took ribbons to sell to their own friends and work colleagues.

Dispensing assistant Kath Sheppard, who organised the event, thanked the generosity of customers on the day.

She said: "I had breast cancer myself five years ago and asked the manager if I could organise this.

"Last year I did it for cancer research but this year I wanted to do it locally because we are quite lucky to have the facilities there and they are quite good at what they do."

The money will be spent on new items recommended by patients to make the Richardson Suite, which opened in June, more comfortable.
