Christmas carnival fun and entertainment came to Keighley this week.

Organised by the Keighley Town Council, the seasonal extravaganza was held on Sunday.

Town Mayor Councillor Nancy Holdsworth attended the event and she said: "It was fantastic. To say it was the first Christmas carnival we've done, it was amazing.

"The weather didn't ruin it thankfully but it really was just magical.

"People were asking why we hadn't done anything like this before, certainly the traders would like us to do it every Sunday.

"It was a great turnout."

Stalls with a festive theme sold carnival hats, garden ornaments, Christmas cards and other items in Low Street, Townfield, Cooke Lane and Queensway.

Festive food and beverages, including jacket potatoes, roast chestnuts and mulled elderberry wine, were available.

There were Victorian carol singers Dizzy and Dotty, a fire performer and children's rides.

And in the Airedale Centre belly dancers, Punch and Judy, carol singing by St Anne's Primary School pupils and mime performed by children from the Cathedral Centre, in Bradford, all provided fantastic entertainment.

Father Christmas made an appearance at noon, travelling by sleigh up Cavendish Street to Keighley Market Hall, where he opened letters with Christmas wishes from children.

The day ended with a 4pm carol singing session outside the market, in Low Street, with children from East Morton Primary School, who then released memorial balloons.

Cllr Holdsworth added: "We had over 30 stalls, line dancers, mime artists, fire eaters, stilt walkers, and Santa and Punch and Judy were amazing.

"The whole thing was absolutely brilliant."

The event coincided with the first Sunday opening of the Airedale Centre and market hall in the run up to Christmas.
