A HAWORTH company has helped Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe to look the part in his latest Hollywood blockbuster.

Wyedean Weaving provided authentic costumes for actors in the big-budget movie Master and Commander -- based on the best-selling novels of Patrick O'Brian.

The company manufactures braid and uniform paraphernalia -- its biggest customer usually being the Ministry of Defence -- but they also create film and theatrical uniforms.

To celebrate the achievement, eight employees of the company went to the opening night of Master and Commander at Keighley Picture House on Tuesday.

Managing director Robin Wright said: "Because we are experts in this field, we had to research the uniforms, which date back to 1796.

"Of course we had to make them look sea-worn by using tea staining.

"The main problems came from damage caused during filming the action scenes, which meant they had to re-order from us at very short notice."

In the film, Russell Crowe plays Captain Jack Aubrey, master and commander of HMS Surprise which is attacked by the French battleship Acheron at the turn of the 19th Century.

Wyedean Weaving has also provided costumes for films and musicals such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
