A single mum who had never used a computer is now teaching others to master them.

Keighley mother-of-two Amanda Hudson's inspirational story has seen her win the UK Online Centres' award for Yorkshire after she overcame her fear of computers.

The 33-year-old went to the UK Online Centre, at Keighley Local Enterprise Agency, and made so much progress that she decided to take more computer courses.

She then attended Keighley College to gain further qualifications.

Mrs Hudson now works part-time at the enterprise agency --where she started -- as an administrator as well as running her own classes for first-time computer users in the evenings.

Mrs Hudson, of Oakworth, said she now planned to return to college to study to become a teacher.

Until walking into the UK Online Centre last June, she had never used a computer.

She was directed to the centre by New Deal Lone Parent advisor Claire Haigh, at Keighley JobCentre.

Mrs Hudson said:"It's not bad for a single parent who was on benefits. It's brilliant, I really enjoy the job and learning about computers has completely transformed my life.

"It can be a bit daunting teaching others about computers when I only passed my exams at Easter, but I enjoy it and I get a good response from people."

Mrs Hudson, whose children are aged three and six, will now go forward for the national UK Online Centres' Award after scooping the "overall winner" and "most inspirational story" categories for Yorkshire. The awards highlight best practice among the 6,000 UK Online Centres around England.

Wendy Ellis, business services manager at Keighley Local Enterprise Agency, said: "I am very proud of her. She's done very well since first coming here in June 2002. She's come in with no experience of using a computer and is now running her own classes." Mrs Ellis said she was offered the job after impressing on a work experience placement while studying at Keighley College.

She added:"We obviously have a lot of confidence in her to give her classes to run. She has done very well indeed."

The winners of the national awards will be judged by a panel of experts and announced at a ceremony in London on Tuesday.
