Thousands of people have said they want to see Bradford become a lakeside city with shops, businesses and houses set in a vast urban park.

More than 4,000 people have visited an exhibition showing a master plan of the city centre which would be created over the next 15 years.

Bradford Centre Regeneration - Bradford's Urban Regeneration Company - will develop the plan created by top international architect Will Alsop.

Researchers have forecast it will bring £265 million a year to the city with vital spin-offs to the rest of the district.

But Bradford Centre Regeneration has pledged all representations made during public consultation will be considered and evaluated by an independent consultant.

The exhibition of the master plan will continue from 10am to 4pm on weekdays until December 19 in the former Brown Muff building in Market Street.

Of the 4,000 people who have attended, 69 per cent think the master plan proposals are "wow" or "great".

A further 12 think the proposals are all right, while ten per cent hate them and nine are undecided.

Maud Marshall, chief executive of Bradford Centre Regeneration, said: "They show a very high level of support for the proposals.

"Furthermore, the visitor numbers reflect a considerable degree of interest that exists in the master plan.

"Quite rightly, people recognise that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform Bradford and regenerate the city centre."

The work of Bradford Centre Regeneration will be based on the master plan which also includes the removal of the inner ring road.

The former Odeon Cinema would be demolished, part of the Bradford Beck uncovered, and high-class homes and commercial properties developed in Canal Road. The city would also have an iconic bridge of learning.

The final version of the plan will go to the board of Bradford Centre Regeneration in the next few weeks before being considered by Bradford Council's Executive Committee.

A city centre jury will be set up to work with Bradford Centre Regeneration during the lifetime of the plan.
