Farsley Celtic 1 Bamber Bridge 1

An injury-time strike from Roy Stammer earned Farsley Celtic a point from a game they dominated in terms of territory while failing to maintain their recent creativity.

It was an opportunity missed as the Celts could have hauled themselves level with their fifth-placed visitors in UniBond Division One with a home maximum.

The Lancashire outfit knew what was at stake and frustrated the home side. Bamber Bridge might even have thought they had won the game when they broke the deadlock seven minutes from time.

"It was a very interesting game. They had the look of a good side but we showed determination to get something from it which is also what the best sides do," said Celts boss Lee Sinnott.

"I suppose you could say we snatched a draw from the jaws of victory but I don't want to be too negative. We played well and if you were judging the game on possession alone we were well on top.

"We didn't create as much as we have done of late, but I have to say that I was very pleased with my side. It would have been a travesty if we had lost the game. It highlights the determination and commitment of the players to still have the belief after going behind with minutes left."

The Celts were fluent in the first half but lacked a cutting edge. It was their best period and they should have taken a lead into the interval. The fact that the Red Rose side were still level at half-time acted as a spur to them.

Into the final 20 minutes Sinnott brought on leading scorer Mick Midwood - he is still on the comeback trail from a recent injury - and he tested the Bridge defence with his direct approach.

The Lancastrians took the lead though. Stuart Shepard sent in a fierce shot that had Celts keeper Tom Morgan beaten but not the woodwork. As the ball cannoned off the underside of the bar and bounced in front of the line Mark Wane headed in from point-blank range.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Stammer hit a left-foot shot from outside the area as he cut in from the left flank. It arrowed through the packed defence to bulge the back of the net and earn his side a deserved point.

"We are still three points behind Bamber Bridge but we have to play them at their place in a couple of weeks and it will be interesting to see what tactics they employ there," added Sinnott.
