ON her last day after 17 years as receptionist at the Ilkley Gazette office, Evelyn Cowie was given a real Scottish farewell.
For there to serenade her was a Scottish piper - alias Jim Jack, chief reporter of sister newspaper, the Wharfedale Observer.
The Gazette and her colleagues gave her a lunchtime send-off on her retirement, at which she received gifts from editor Mel Vasey and weeklies group advertising manager Dawn Martin.
Also among those present were parent company Newsquest Bradford managing director David Coates, Newsquest group advertising manager John Lee and former Gazette editor Brian Lynch.
Mrs Cowie and her husband, John, moved to Ilkley from Glasgow 24 years ago, and they live in St James's Road. She has been receptionist in the Wells Road office since 1986.
