Doncaster A 21, Otley Saracens 13

DONCASTER, with a win over Saracens at Cross Green earlier in the season, were looking forward to completing the double in the return.

Doncaster has not been a happy hunting ground for Saracens in recent years and with several call-ups to the first team they knew they would have a hard task to extend their winning run to eight games.

Doncaster with the slope opened strongly, with their big pack securing some quality possession, and after Otley had repelled pressure near their line Doncaster took the lead when their pack drove over for a converted try.

Saracens continued to defend strongly but Doncaster eventually extended the lead in a bizarre fashion. There looked no danger when Doncaster kicked through but when the ball bounced awkwardly the covering Otley player jostled the Doncaster player following up and the referee awarded a penalty try.

Stung by this reverse Otley hit back strongly and the pack stared to gain more possession with the back row of Matthew Wright, Phil Harlow and David Smith getting through a lot of work.

Building pressure on the home side Saracens created a turnover and recycling the ball quickly a running chance was created for Will Darby and he took full advantage rounding his opposite number before using his pace to beat the cover and score an excellent try. Phil Howell added the conversion and as Otley continued the pres-sure he added a penalty to make it 14-10 at half-time.

The second-half became a war of attrition as both sides fought to gain the upper hand. Phil Howell reduced the deficit to a single point with a well struck penalty but Doncaster clinched it with a converted try.

This was a good team performance against a strong side and once again the Colts who were brought in acquitted themselves well against bigger opponents

Otley Tongans 62, Moortown A 0

WITH several players returning from injury the Tongans were able to field their strongest side of the season. They took an early lead when Alistair Campbell gathered a clearing kick and outstripped the covering players to score and he followed it with a second when quick handling got him clear.

The visitors had problems with ball retention and when they dropped the ball Tim Westlake-Bryant gathered to race over. Moortown had a period of pressure but Otley broke out with superb handling and Chris Stott took the inside pass to score. Right on half-time Steve Kershaw dummied over from close in to make it 31-0.

Tongans continued to spread the ball on the re-start and Alistair Campbell completed his hat-trick when he was on the end of a superb handling move from his own line.

Moortown were playing with a lot of spirit but they could not stop Otley scoring another four tries through Will Foster, Robbie Westworth, Steve Kershaw and Tom Woods, the only forward to score.

Alex Thompson, who had a good game at fly-half, kicked six conversions.
