A woman solicitor has teamed up with her sister-in-law to open a new practice in the heart of a Bradford regeneration area.

Cambridge University graduate Goldi Millan, 31, and her sister-in-law Pam Millan, 30, joined forces to launch the venture together in Leeds Road, Thornbury.

The new firm opened its doors last week and received support from local regeneration agency Regen2000, which is aiming to attract new businesses into the Leeds Road area.

Goldi, a specialist in personal injury law, said she was confident the road - with its high volume of traffic - would prove a good place to be in business.

And she said the practice hoped to appeal to the large community of Asian women which lived in the area, which she was confident would take off with growing signs of investment.

"We decided to set up in practice to provide what we felt wasn't available any more in the high street, ie a family practice with family values that values its clients and provides a good quality service," she said. "That's really our motto.

"We welcome everyone, but I don't think that there are any other female Asian solicitors here. Asian women may have certain requirements that make a firm of Asian women more approachable for them."

She added: "Having grown up here, I know how busy the area is. I have always thought that this would be the ideal location. I think Bradford is great, I love the city and always said I wanted to come back."

Goldi, who has two children aged six years and 13 months, said she decided to open her own practice rather than join one of the well-established legal firms because it gave her the flexibility she needed as a parent.

"Just because you have children, it doesn't mean that your working life has to stop," she said.

"This gives me a lot more flexibility which you don't always get in a male-dominated environment any more."
