Australian duo Gareth Edds and Paul Reid are the latest fall guys as Bryan Robson continues to trim the City squad.

Robson has told both players that their future lies elsewhere.

The City boss has cut seven from his squad since taking over - all players brought in under Nicky Law.

Managing director Shaun Harvey said: "Bryan is continuing to make room for players that he believes can make a difference.

"It also makes sure the reserve team isn't over-burdened with senior players keeping youngsters out."

Full back Edds, 23 next week, arrived in the summer from Swindon. He was a regular for Law, making 15 starts, but has hardly featured since Robson came in with only one unused substitute's role against Coventry.

Midfielder Reid has been hampered by injury and was twice sidelined by broken toes.

After scoring twice on his home debut last season, he played only six more games - the last against Millwall in April.

Robson is concentrating on the loan market in his survival bid.

City currently have three players on loan - league rules allow up to four short-term signings at the same time.

City are in talks with Ipswich about extending Alun Armstrong's stay, which is due to run out at the weekend.

But the East Anglians have refused to let the striker play against them at Portman Road on February 14. That would effectively mean a two-week period in Armstrong's loan when he would not be able to play.

To get round that, City could offer to extend the current deal for another week to take in the West Ham game and then agree a separate loan for the player to begin the week after they have played Ipswich.
