Sunday's Odsal bow was a vital first step towards full match fitness for the Bulls' prize off-season signing Logan Swann.

After a three-month break from the game, a relieved Swann is happy to have his home debut under his belt.

"The first 20 minutes were a bit of a shock to the system," he said.

"I had to try to blow a few cobwebs out. I felt good towards the later stages of the first half but then dropped my bundle in the second half. I just couldn't get my second wind.

"I wouldn't be able to pull any wool over your eyes by saying that my fitness was up to scratch. Match fitness is what most of us are lacking so it was good to have a hit out and a good win. It's game time that you need and I'm fortunate that I got a long stint in the trial and I'll be better for it in the next game and the game after that."

Swann was suitably impressed by the ability of his new team-mates, describing the 56-18 demolition of Castleford as "awesome".

"The strike power and the individual skill and flair is top notch, so I'm very excited about being involved in such a team," he said.

Swann started at left second row against Castleford, a position that could see him providing the link for last year's devastating attacking unit of Shontayne Hape and Lesley Vainikolo. Linking up with two of Super League's premier offloaders is a prospect the Kiwi ball-player is relishing.

"I'll be feeding them a lot of the ball. Their attacking ability is awesome. From what I've seen in last year's games they are dynamite together out there on the left edge."
