Children's lives are being put at risk because Bradford Council has failed to repaint yellow zig-zag lines on a road outside a school.

According to teachers at Our Lady of Victories Catholic School, since Guard House Road was resurfaced during the February half term their pupils have had to brave crossing the busy road through an army of parked cars.

Head teacher Kath Robinson rang the council's road safety team at the beginning of the new term and was told the job would be done within three weeks.

But three months later there are still no zig-zag lines.

Learning Mentor Michelle Wilson said: "It's absolutely ridiculous. They have promised and promised that they would do it, but still nothing has been done.

"We can't ask parents to move because they are not parking illegally. When we try, we just get obscenities from them."

She added: "We are doing road safety sessions with Years 1 and 2 at the moment and when we talk about what the zig-zag lines outside schools are for there's nothing for us to show them."

A Bradford Council spokesman said: "We apologise for the delay in repainting the road markings outside Our Lady of Victories Catholic School.

"The work has now been given the highest priority and, if the weather holds, it should be completed by the end of next week."
