Twice as many people will take part in this year's Shipley Stride as last year.

A total of 500 people have now registered for the sponsored walk, backed by the Telegraph & Argus, to raise valuable cash for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

That's double last year's entry.

And although the walk is on Sunday it is still not too late to register and take part like the employees of a hi-tech Saltaire firm, the latest batch of volunteers to sign up.

Members of staff from Pace Micro Technology plc, including group finance controller Damien Wilkinson, will be completing the walk for the second time in support of Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Last year they raised a total of £1,200 and 11 people took part. This year they have 17 walkers and Maxine Asquith, a personal assistant at Pace, said the company's charity committee has pledged to match the amount of sponsorship raised up to £800.

"It means we can raise a lot more money this year and we are really please about that," said Miss Asquith. "Last year was great fun, a real team-building exercise."

The staff's friends and family are joining in the fun, too.

The fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Relief, Michelle Norcliffe, said "It is still not too late to take part in the event and your help could make all the difference to the amount we raise.

"The support we receive from the people of Bradford is outstanding. We would never be able to provide additional specialist services without their help.

"It means that together we are making a difference to the lives of so many people".

The Shipley Stride is a five-mile sponsored walk, suitable for all abilities, from Shipley Glen to Faweather Grange near Ilkley Moor. It takes place this Sunday and walkers can set off between 10am and noon.

Anyone still not registered can call the Macmillan Cancer Relief office on (01274) 365905 to get a sponsor form. The registration fee is £3 for adults and £1 for children. A family pass costs £6.
