The family and friends of a woman who died only a month before her wedding are running the Race for Life in her memory.

Jayne Adlington, 22, of Fairweather Green, Bradford, lost a nine-year fight against bone cancer two months ago and her funeral was held on the day her wedding should have been.

Now 16 runners aged between 19 and 60 have pledged to raise money in her memory by completing the race at Temple Newsam in Leeds tomorrow (May 23) for Cancer Research UK.

They will be wearing specially-made T-shirts carrying the wording: Jayne's Team in memory of Jayne Adlington 18.4.1981 to 9.3.2004.

Her sister Teresa Walsh said: "Whether we walk, because some have arthritis, jog or run or a bit of everything we shall do the race.

"I have done it for the past four years and Jayne always came along to cheer me on. So this time without her there will be an emotional event for us all."

Jayne, who was feeling healthy this time last year, attended the event in 2003 in Lister Park. But the cancer she was first diagnosed with when she was 13 returned at Christmas and she lost her fight for life in March, a month before she was due to marry fiance Robert Hall. Teresa will be joined by their mother Elaine, aunts, cousins, sisters-in-law and a host of friends who attend Teresa's Rosemary Conley slimming class in Great Horton. Teresa added: "Jayne would think it was superb." To sponsor them contact Jayne on: 0795 2421328

l Hundreds of walkers will join the Shipley Stride tomorrow to raise cash for the Macmillan appeal, which funds Macmillan nurses to help people with cancer and their families. The five-mile sponsored walk, backed by the Telegraph & Argus, will take a circular route between Baildon moor and Faweather Grange on Ilkley Moor.
