Dougie Lampkin narrowly missed out on a weekend double in Italy when his Honda team colleague Takahisa Fujinami turned the tables to take the top step on the podium on Sunday.

The Silsden ace therefore failed to make any in-roads into the 19-point gap between himself and Fujinami at the top of the FIM World Trials Championship standings.

Some consolation for Lampkin was that he finished the Aprico event in Italy four places ahead of his Spanish rival Adam Raga, who trails him by six points in the overall table.

Lampkin's victory on Saturday was his first since April 4 when he won in Ireland.

Lampkin is bidding for his eighth world crown this season and though losing out to Fujinami the following day, Saturday's victory in Italy has revitalised the Yorkshire rider.

"I had almost forgotten how good it feels to be on the top step of the rostrum and to hear the national anthem again," said Lampkin.

Graham Jarvis repeated his Saturday result with ninth place on Sunday while Shaun Morris and Ben Hemingway missed the world points cut.

Cookridge teenager James Dabill topped the Junior Cup points with Mika Vesterinen in third place.
