Bradford won five titles at the West Yorkshire Youth Games at Leeds Metropolitan Univer-sity's Beckett Park complex.

Two of the victories came in the diving - in years Three, Four and Five and Nine, Ten and Eleven - and they also triumphed in the girls' football for Year Seven, tennis for Year Eights and in the disability rugby union.

Leeds walked away with three titles - boys' basketball under-13s, girls' football Year Six and gymnastics for years Four, Five and Six, and that was matched by Wakefield's wins in the under-15 boccia (a form of bowls), under-13 netball and under-13 girls' rugby union.

Kirklees triumphed in the under-13 girls' basketball and the under-tens tennis, but no-region surpassed Calderdale.

They lifted eight titles, including a clean sweep of the four hockey titles (under-11 and under-13 boys and under-11 and under-13 girls).

Calderdale also won the athletics, gymnastics for years Seven and Eight, under-15s' netball and under-13s' tennis.

Over 1,000 youngsters took part in the 11 events, the diving taking place at Shipley Pool.

The Games, funded by Sport England, give children the opportunity to compete in the biggest annual multi-sport event in the region.

Among the spectators was the Minister for Sport and Tourism Richard Caborn MP, who was impressed by the skills on display.

St Francis' Catholic Primary School represented Bradford in the Year Six girls' football, having won the city's 28-team qualifying tournament.

Skipper Jade Newton was outstanding, scoring 11 goals, but St Francis' didn't make it to the semi-finals in the main event.

Her team-mates were Alice Hawthorn, Siobhan Lee, Eleanor McMahon, Molly McMahon, Ellie Greenwood, Aimee Jordan, Meisha Uttley, Faye Fitzpatrick and Emily Sunderland.

St Francis' Year Six boys' soccer team took part in a Catholic Schools' Tournament at Yorkshire Martyrs, and were joint winners with St Joseph's Primary School, Bradford.

The St Francis' squad was Luke Johnson, Elliott Holmes (captain), David Bostock, Kaiton Binns, Jack McMahon and Daniel Driscoll.
