CANCER surgeon Ian Hutchinson -- aka Mr January -- is hoping to get pulses racing and temperatures rising with his latest procedure.

He has been asked to surgically remove his clothes alongside a group of Keighley men getting their kit off for a charity calendar.

In a nod to the Calendar Girls, the 11 men will bare all to raise money for Airedale Cancer Support Group.

Mary Toothill, of Bracken Bank Grove, Keighley, is the behind the stunt.

The 60-year-old has spent 22 years fighting breast cancer and -- supported by her two daughters Susan Kelly and Kirsty Mullaney -- has raised nearly £4,000 for the group already.

Each of the 11 men, all friends of Mary's, will pose for a specific month, with only the tools of their trade to hide their modesty.

And for a December delight, the men will get together for a group shot.

Mary's cancer surgeon Ian Hutchinson, will kick off the calendar as Mr January. Her son-in-law Paul Kelly has also posed and fireman John Senior made good use of his fireman's helmet during his photo shoot.

Susan, 37, said: "We have taken the pictures for the calendar ourselves.

"We don't want it to look too professional. It's an amateur production and we want people to know who's doing it and where their money is going."

She added: "The guys came up with the idea to do the calendar themselves.

"I think it puts out a good message -- after all men get breast cancer too."

Mary has been hit with breast cancer three times. The first time was in 1982 when she had a lumpectomy.

The cancer appeared for a second time in 1989 with Mary forced to undergo a mastectomy.

She was clear for 13 years but two years ago the cancer returned and she had to have a second mastectomy.

She said: "My mum and my sister died from cancer and I've had it so this fundraising is a very personal cause. I've been with the Airedale support group since 1982.

"They offer support to patients and their families and I don't know what I'd have done without them."

Susan said: "It's nice to be able to turn it into a positive thing. Two years ago it helped us get through it by keeping everyone's spirits up."

Raffles, a car boot sale, an auction and a games night are among the events organised -- as well as the calendar -- to raise money.

Mary's daughter Kirsty, who is training to be a solicitor, has also arranged a sponsored sleepover with her course-mates at the reputedly haunted Old Court House, in Bradford, on August 5.

The summer's fundraising will culminate in a gig at Victoria Hall, Keighley, by local rock/pop band Hush, on October 30.

Susan said: "Don Gaudiosi and his band do a gig every year to raise money for the support group.

"This time we thought we'd join forces. While the band plays we'll be selling the calendars."

Mary is appealing to local firms to sponsor the calendar.

She said: "We are also open to any offers from printing shops to get the calendar printed. The more sponsorship and donations we get, the more we can print."
