Burley were shocked by their surprise three wicket defeat by the relegation threatened Illingworth. It was the first league defeat of the season for table toppers Burley and with Tong Park gaining a win they cut the gap to eight points.

Despite a fine effort by opener Richard Brook, who made 53, Burley's batsmen struggled for runs and only a late flourish by Andy Clarkson (26) and Martin Robinson (22 no) saw them finish on 157-9 off their 50 overs.

Although Nick Brook picked up four wickets the prolific wicket taker Richard Harrison was halted in his tracks and had to be content with 2-73 off his 15 overs.

With M O'Donnell unbeaten on 52 Illingworth knocked off the runs with three wickets in hand and just four balls to spare after young Shane Etherington had applied the brakes with 1-16 off nine overs.

Skipper Nick Murden guided Tong Park to a score of 185-7 with a fine opening knock of 70. He found support from Brendan Ryan with 49 but the remaining batsmen offered little resistance to Calverley's bowlers.

Calverley were then dismissed for 133 as I Jackson grabbed 4-35 and Steve Young 3-8.

Collingham are in third place after gaining five points from a drawn game at Ilkley. Harlan Hayes, their overseas player, top scored with 55 not out in their 45 over innings and opener M Cooke made a useful contribution of 38. For Ilkley Richard Simpson had 3-37 off 12 overs and Leighton Parsons 2-19.

Ilkley made a good start through Parsons (37) and Simpson (39) but the innings tailed away as Steve Booth bagged 5-22 off a superb 17 over stint. Ilkley finished on 94-8 to secure a point.

Pool tied their game at Thackley after facing the last ball from Andrew Luxton needing three to win.They had to settle for two and thus tied the scores.

Phil Dibb had taken 5-62 as Thackley made 161 all out. M Naylor nipped in to bag 2-4 off seven balls at the death.

Dibb started well for Pool with 22 but then they lost a couple of cheap wickets and it was left to David Murphy (42) and Mark McEneaney (39) to get them back into the game. Luxton however bowled a key spell taking 4-52 off 18 overs and Pool finished level on 161-8.

Skipton are seven points adrift of safety after going down to a Knaresborough side in which Mike Baxendall continued his wicket taking.

The veteran bowler bagged 5-30 as Skipton fell for 136, Andrew Facey holding things together with a knock of 69. Baxendall was well backed up by Greg Pickles with 4-59.

Knaresborough then knocked off the runs for the loss of just four wickets. S Corcoran led the way with 58 and Stuart Carey made 39.
