Yorkshire off-spinner Richard Dawson and batsman Anthony McGrath are both included in England's preliminary list of 30 names for the ICC Champions Trophy which takes place in September.

McGrath is already a regular member of England's one-day squad but Dawson has earned his place on the back of some fine performances this season.

He is currently Yorkshire's leading wicket-taker in the championship with 23 dismissals at 25.56 runs apiece and he also leads the way in the totesport League with 14 wickets at an average of 18.5.

Dawson will be encouraged that he has not been forgotten by England after losing his form following the Ashes tour of 2002-03. He has fought back well this season, however, and has regained a lot of his confidence.

Former Yorkshire paceman, Darren Gough, now with Essex, is in the squad, which has to be whittled down to 14 by August 10, and two Bradford-born players also included are off-spinner-batsman Gareth Batty, now with Worcestershire, and fast bowler and hard-hitting batsman Alex Wharf, who is having an excellent season with Glamorgan.

Meanwhile, Michael Lumb and Andy Gray both play for Yorkshire Seconds today in their Trophy match against Derbyshire at Stamford Bridge.

The game was originally scheduled for Castleford but had to be moved following the burning down of the club's splendid pavilion.

Director of cricket David Byas has included them in the side so that they can get in some meaningful cricket before Saturday's C&G Trophy semi-final match with Gloucestershire at Bristol.

"There is a limit to the number of senior players that can turn out in this game but everyone is doing their best to keep in shape," said Byas.

The rest of Yorkshire's first team squad were netting today and they will also net tomorrow before the Twenty20 Roses match at Headingley which begins at 5.30pm.

Aussie all-rounder Ian Harvey will be particularly looking forward to a strenuous match after last Sunday's abandonment of the totesport League game against Durham allowed him no chance of either batting or bowling on his return after a couple of months' lay-off with a torn hamstring.
