Blood donors will be rolling up their sleeves tomorrow to show their support for a Gomersal boy with a life-threatening blood disorder.
Friends and family of three-year-old Reuben Grainger-Mead, who suffers a rare form of red cell aplasia requiring monthly blood transfusions, will be giving blood to help the youngster and other children like him when the National Blood Service visits Cleckheaton Town Hall.
Reuben's plight was revealed in the Telegraph & Argus last month when his mum Michelle spoke of her hope that one last drug - Metaproclomide - could be key to his survival.
An appeal, called Reuben and Friends, has also been set-up to raise funds for future research into childhood blood disorders.
Mum Michelle, 35, of Lower Lane, Little Gomersal, said: "When your child is ill and needs blood it really brings it home to you that no-one is exempt from needing blood.
"Patients like Reuben will always need blood so we want to do as much as we can."
Anyone who wants to take part in tomorrow's blood donation session from 2pm to 4pm and from 5.30pm to 7pm, should call the National Blood Service on 0845 7711 711 or contact Reuben and Friends organiser Helen Hartley on (01274) 875300.
