Lennie Lawrence was the man who brought Wayne Jacobs to City.

Lawrence, now manager of ambitious Coca-Cola Championship side Cardiff, got him on a free transfer from Rotherham a decade ago.

And on the eve of the defender's testimonial against Bolton on Saturday, his first Valley Parade boss regards it as one of the shrewdest bits of business he has done.

"I always found Wayne to be an exceptional professional," said Lawrence. "He was a very steady left back when I was there and later in the First Division and during Bradford's time in the Premiership.

"It has been a real roller-coaster for the club in recent seasons but Wayne has continued to stick by them. It's very rare these days for a player to remain loyal to one club for so long.

"Wayne is a model pro and a great example to the younger players about how a footballer should conduct himself. Wayne thoroughly deserves his testimonial and I hope it is a great success."

A host of Bradford celebrities, including Gareth Gates, Stuart McCall and Peter Beagrie, will be in action before the main game on Saturday. At 1.30pm an all-star side will take on a team made up of fans who have bid for their chance on the club's web-site.

Tickets are still available for the banqueting suite, which include a four-course meal and the chance to meet the big names. For details contact Jean Calvert on (01274) 591947 or Anita Smith on 07880 526340.
