Baildon are bidding for a second successive big scalp in the Specialist Ducting Supplies Bradford League.

Last week they beat leaders Pudsey Congs by seven wickets in a rain-affected match at Jenny Lane, and tomorrow they face second-placed Cleckheaton at Moorend.

"I know it was only 25 overs per side, but we beat Congs on merit," said Baildon's league representative Mick Illingworth.

"Yes, there were some funny results last weekend because of the weather, but we were the better side and they didn't get enough runs."

As for tomorrow, Illingworth said of Cleckheaton: "They aren't second in the table for nothing, and after Congs this will be our stiffest test of the season.

"Cleckheaton have two players who stand out above everyone else - Andrew Gale and Ian Austin.

"But our target is ten points from the double weekend.

"We are perfectly capable of beating East Bierley at home on Sunday, and ten points would lift us into the middle of the pack.

"As I have said before, our success is based on bowling tightly and fielding well.

"And Jaffer Nazir is on fire with his bowling at the moment, Phil Slater is bowling well and the rest of our attack are chipping in well.

"Also Simon Davies, who is batting fluently again, has scored a total of 147 runs in his last two innings.

"Some have said that the captaincy has affected his batting, but I don't agree.

"We were not in a false position a few weeks ago when we were near the bottom, but now we are turning the corner."

A revived Baildon may now be looking to mid-table, but getting out of the bottom two is about all Undercliffe and Spen Victoria can hope for.

Spen, who beat Undercliffe by 43 runs at home last Saturday, have a trickier match at Bilal Asad-inspired Saltaire tomorrow.

On Sunday, Spen entertain Idle.

Undercliffe, who with a bit more backbone could have held out for a point last weekend and kept a three-point gap between themselves and Spen, are at home to Pudsey St Lawrence tomorrow.

And they continue what is a very stiff weekend with a match at Cleckheaton on Sunday.

The target for Spen and Undercliffe now is surely catching third-from-bottom Mirfield, who have the happy knack of beating those sides around them in the basement.

Mirfield have a decent chance of points on both days. Tomorrow they are at Idle, and on Sunday they are at home to Bankfoot.

Congs have the chance to get back on the horse both at home to East Bierley tomorrow and at Farsley on Sunday.
