A doctor who indecently assaulted a woman while on bail for an earlier sex attack has been spared jail -- for the time being.

Keighley-born Darren Holdsworth, 37, (pictured) pulled down a stranger's top and exposed her breasts in a Glasgow pub just weeks after being released on appeal for an assault on a teenage girl.

He was convicted of the latest incident in May, but a court heard yesterday that he continued to deny what happened.

But, in a rare move, the psychiatrist, who it is believed has yet to be struck off, was ordered to confess by penning letters to the court and the relevant medical authorities expressing his guilt.

Sheriff Ronnie Watson QC told him: "You were convicted even though you may not accept what occurred. It was a matter of incredulity that these actions were not considered to be of a sexual nature. I have to impose a sentence that reflects the gravity of the offence and gives the public an element of safety from you.

"You could easily face jail, but you will be given an opportunity to show good behaviour.

"The condition is you write these letters to show you now accept your conviction. It will be up to you not to re-offend."

Sentence has now been deferred for three months and Holdsworth, originally of Birchwood Road, Utley, was ordered to stay at home between the hours of midnight and 7am.

He left court with his partner, refusing to comment.

His most recent attack came as he was out drinking with friends in Glasgow's Ubiquitous Chip pub last October.

His 30-year-old victim said she heard Holdsworth -- who she did not know-- shouting at her as she entered the bar.

As she was talking to a friend, he then leant over, grabbed at her corset-style top and pulled it down.

Holdsworth -- a specialist in dealing with vulnerable people at Glasgow's Stobhill Hospital -- branded her a liar.

He claimed any contact was "an accident".

But he was found guilty and held in custody while reports were carried out on him.

Sheriff Watson this week branded a psychological report as "utterly meaningless" after saying doctors "seemed to accept" Holdsworth was not guilty. The court also heard he was hostile to social workers, who said he was at "serious risk of re-offending".

Holdsworth, now of Balshagray Crescent, Jordanhill, Glasgow, still awaits a date for an appeal against a three-year sentence for an attack on a teenager.

In 2002, he admitted forcing a 19-year-old girl to have unnatural sex and then thrashing her bare bottom with a metal coathanger.

He had preyed on his victim after meeting her in a Glasgow restaurant, where she had been out with her parents.

Following the assault, the girl -- who suffered from anorexia -- tried to commit suicide with a cocktail of drink and pills.
