TWO Barnoldswick women who became local celebrities after producing a saucy calendar are to star in a television documentary.

Jenny Purcell and Dianne Hodkinson raised £2,700 for charity through the sale of the calendar, which featured nude workers from SITA recycling and waste depots.

Their work generated interest from the local and national press and now a documentary about their story is being produced for Channel 4.

Last week a television crew descended on the town to film the the women as they made a new calendar for 2005. It will again feature workers from SITA, but will incorporate a new theme of litter and the countryside.

After an intense week of filming, Mrs Purcell and Mrs Hodkinson are now looking forward to seeing themselves on the screen later in the year.

The documentary looks at the number of spin-off naked calendars made as a result of the film Calendar Girls, inspired by the real-life story of the women from Rylstone WI who stripped off for charity.

Wellpark Productions Ltd, which is making the programme, travelled up and down the country looking at over 200 calendars. But only seven were chosen to appear in the hour-long programme.

Filming took place at Newfield Hall Farm, in Airton and on Weets Hill in Barnoldswick.

Money raised from the new calendar will go towards cancer charity Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends.

Sue Bourne, producer and director for the programme, said the documentary would be looking at the nationwide phenomenon of the naked calendar. "We are trying to find out why the British as a race find it amazingly funny to take their clothes off," she said. "But what is also great is the amount of money the calendars are raising for charity."
