FOR 34 years Mo Metcalfe has catered for the clothing needs of her loyal customers.

Mrs Metcalfe owns Mo's, on Skipton's Sheep Street, which is one of the longest-running shops in the town.

She spent the first two years on Water Street before moving to the town centre spot and through the years has changed her stock to match the fashion of the time, be it grunge, glitter or new romantic.

She said that selling Crombie coats in 1970 had really kick-started the business.

"Nobody had them and we got them manufactured in Leeds. They were queuing outside Water Street," she explained.

Mrs Metcalfe says her shop caters for women between the ages of 30 up to 80 and has a Bohemian style with light, flowing garments.

Her main shop has always been based in Skipton, but over the years she has had two businesses in Clitheroe and one in Keighley.

Mrs Metcalfe knows from her customers what sort of items they want and she relates this information to her agent who goes out to India, China and Paris to bring back clothes, jewellery and bags.

Mrs Metcalfe, who trained as a hairdresser before setting up the shop, said: "We have a lot of regular customers from all over the country and abroad. We have had some famous people such as Edwina Currie, Gloria Hunniford, The Hollies and Graham Taylor."

Mo's shop window has always attracted lots of attention and is changed every week.

However, the interior of mirrors, pictures and antiques has not been changed over the years as both Mrs Metcalfe, her staff and customers love the nostalgic feel.

"Men do not mind coming into the shop because there's things to see," she added.

And although many other shops have been and gone, Mo's has managed to live on, even though it has experienced hard times.

"We give a service and we help people. It's the old fashioned way I suppose, but people like it," said Mrs Metcalfe.
